Vicroads Notice Concerning Transportation of Trailable Yachts

The following are the regulations for a trailable yachts (see Notice for full details):


Trailer Sailer

(a) the trailer must be used only to transport a yacht, including any mast on the yacht; and

(b) the distance between the centre of the trailer's axle or axle group and the rearmost part of the yacht on the trailer, including any mast, must not exceed 5.0 metres; and

(c) only the yacht, including any mast (not the trailer) can exceed 3.7 metres in rear overhang; and

(d) the portion of the yacht including any mast, that exceeds a rear overhang of 3.7 metres shall not exceed 2.0 metres wide; and

(e) the mast when secured, or any part of the yacht, must not extend more than 1.2 metres forward of the point of articulation between the trailer and the towing vehicle; and

(f) the length of the laden trailer (generally the length of the mast) must not exceed 14.7 metres; and

(g) the trailer must exert a positive downward force on the towing vehicleÕs trailer coupling; and

(h) the registered operator of the motor vehicle must ensure that the combination can be safely operated on its intended routes.
