Location

Loch Sport is unique in that town infrastructure and amenities are decentralised. There is no actual “CBD. The Post Office, Hardware and Petrol Station, RSL, Boat and Bowls Clubs are located at the Western entrance. A kilometre further on is a Supermarket and Real Estate Agencies. Another kilometre further East is the Hotel and Marina.  The Bakery and Service Station with mechanical repairs is a further two kilometres East.

It is because of this unique situation that the location of a Safe Boat Harbour cannot be justified on the position of any particular town infrastructure or amenities.

A decision on it’s location should be made solely on where it best fits in relation to shelter, prevailing weather conditions and Safe Boating

The proposal for the Harbour to be located at the Western end of Loch Sport fits these criteria.

Alternate proposals have placed a Harbour or Jetty near the Supermarket and Real Estate Agencies. This location is shallow, open and exposed. It would be vulnerable to strong weather systems from the South West, West, and North East. These proposals appear to be more commercial driven and don’t take advantage of the natural protection available in the area West of the existing Deep Water Jetty at Charlies St.
