Navigation Trials

Our Navigation Trials are a fun way to get out in your boat and learn some basic navigation on the water and are conducted a couple of times each year.

The Nav Trials take the form of each boats crew plotting thier course on a map from detailed instructions given to all competitors in the club rooms. The travel time around the course must then be estimated based on time, distance and bearing calculations and submitted to the race organiser.

You then head for your boat and complete the course with only your compass available (the rest of your instruments are covered up or switched off). There are also questions about the course and its features that need to be answered as you go.

All results are then compared with prizes going to various outstanding efforts in a number of categories. A Picnic or BBQ is also usually associated with the event.
